2021 WSWM Season Ender & Provincial Event 2021

Family has always played a factor in the waterski world. On Saturday, September 11th, we saw that in full force at Lake Shirley. WSWM held its first Provincials in almost 5 years.

The tournament had 2 components to it – a sanctioned competition with all 3-events (slalom, trick and jump) and a Recreational event.

There were 8 skiers who participated in the sanctioned tournament and 11 skiers who tried the rec side. It was great to see so many skiers from our member clubs:

Brandon Ski Club, Sunrise/Nutimik Club and the South Flamingo Club/Lake Shirley.

Even more impressive was the results from a couple of our younger athletes who competed with the goal of achieving scores that would allow them to attend Nationals next year.

The Rec portion of the tournament rules were modified so that all levels of skier could participate and to get a taste of a competitive atmosphere with less pressure.

WSWM would like to thank all the volunteers who were involved along the way to make this event happen. It was a lot of work to get the course in and surveyed as well as provide all the logistics that go into running a tournament.

Along with some seasoned officials returning to help out, we were able to introduce and mentor a few new members to officiating and educate them on all that goes into hosting a tournament.

Much was learned from this day. We know that Manitoba has a large ski community and are hopeful that this will be the spark that brings a renewed interest in our sport and encourage people to get involved so that events like this can continue to happen in the coming years.
