WSWM 2018 Summer Highlights

Rip N Ride

Thankfully, mother nature cooperated this year with some spring precipitation and the lake levels rose enough to allow us to hold our summer programming.   A combination of one day and week long camps were held at Lake Shirley.  A big thank you to our coaches - Christian, Lucas, Zach and Brandon as well as drivers, Michele and Don & Rhonda.  We look forward to holding these camps again next year.  Details will be published in the Spring Leisure Guide. .

Walk up Skiing

This year's walk up program saw the addition of a card reader system that allows members to purchase ski time then use their card to tap the reader to deduct time skied.  Thank you to Daryl from Brandon who designed and installed this new system.  This season was the test event for this concept with the hopes of full implementation next year.  More information on this will be made available prior to the start of next season.
Thank you to Don for coordinating walk up activity at the site as well as the opening, closing and general upkeep required throughout the year.  Big thank you to all the new and returning members who offered a hand at the  site as well.  Much appreciated.

Provincial Team Water Ski
Provincial Water Ski Team member, Taryn Grant, had a busy season travelling and competing across the globe.
She skied at both Westerns and Nationals as well as the Canadian Open.  Taryn hopped the pond for a jump tournament in England and was very excited to qualify for the US Masters event this year.  This accomplishment was the first time in approximately 40 years that a Manitoban has competed at this event.  Taryn has plans to compete at the King of Darkness coming up, which is a pro jump tournament.  Taryn has also been selected to be part of the Canadian Team travelling to the Pan American Championships taking place in Santiago, Chile, November 12-18, 2018. Congrats!!
Along with her busy competitive schedule Taryn was also awarded a Sport Manitoba Women to Watch grant for her continued advancement in coaching and was awarded the WSWC Manoo & Jean Gurwar Scholarhips at the Nationals banquet.

Provincial Team Wakeboard
Provincial Wakeboard Team Member Zach Myers was unable to compete this season due to injury but stepped up to assist with our summer camps.   Thanks Zach!

Coaching Corner

Many coaches who have been trained at the Foundations level in years passed will be receiving an email from the CAC about maintenance of certification.
In order to maintain your certification, you will need to accumulate a certain number of professional development (PD) points by December 31, 2018. To verify how many PD points you have accumulated so far, you can log into your locker account and navigate to Certification, then Maintenance, on the left-hand side of the page.
Please take the time to review the letters and if you have any questions please contact Cole Grant at cole@wswc.ca.
  WSWM Clubs

Towed water sport is also active across the Province with programs supported by Brandon Water Ski Club, Brereton Lake Club, Clearwater in The Pas and Sunrise at Nutimik.  Keep up the good work!

Taryn Grant Competes in 58th Masters

Congratulations to Taryn Grant for being the first Manitoban in 40 years to compete at the Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament.

The 58th Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament was held May 26-28, 2017. The Masters is known throughout the world as the most prestigious watersports tournament. The event began in 1959 at Callaway Gardens and is held annually during the Memorial Day weekend.

An invitation to compete in the Masters is universally considered an honor and an acknowledgement of achievement for reaching the pinnacle in a given watersports discipline - only the world's most elite athletes compete at the Masters! This tournament is IWWF/USA Water Ski and WWA sanctioned.
